Observations, News & Photos from local Maui Residents
We're often asked how one can bike down Haleakala from the Crater Summit. This wasn't a problem until October of 2007, when Haleakala National Park stopped commercial bike companies from allowing bikers to start their journey there. Now, if you want to bike from the top all the way to the bottom, you need to rent a bike. You can still do the full tour with the bike companies, but you'll start a little lower in elevation at the park entrance (around 6500 ft instead of the summit 10,023ft.
If you want to rent a bike in Maui, we suggest renting from Haleakala Bike Company. Their shop is in Haiku, which is on the way to the summit. They'll set you up with all the gear and with bike racks for your rental. You will need a ride to get to your car again.
When you rent your bike, ask the guys at the shop for other suggestions. There are so many different bike trails on Maui that will blow your mind! Ask and they'll be happy to show you the best Maui bike trails.
The Kula Kottage is only 20 minutes from Haleakala National Park, and just over 10 miles to the beach and airport. Makawao town is only 4 miles away!
Book this 2 bedroom kula rental now by calling (808) 575-9575 or visiting Kula Vacation Rental.

Recently, Travel & Leisure rated their 35 top warm weather resorts in America. Obviously, Florida, California, and Hawaii took most of the leading spots on the list. The Hawaiian Islands picked off a large portion of the them, and Maui County took 3 of the top spots.

The Four Seasons Resort Lanai, The Lodge at Koele
One of two Four Seasons' locations on the island of Lanai, The Lodge at Koele can make you forget you're in Hawaii. It's a bit cooler and has a cozy lodge feeling to it. But don't think it's hard to find that Hawaii feeling. All you need to do is take their shuttle down to the beach, only 10 minutes away, to the other Four Seasons at Manele Bay. This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii.

The Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea
We feel this is the best resort on the island of Maui. Everything is top-notch, high-end perfection. Many people claim that the Grand Wailea is the best, but these people must not have stayed at the Four Seasons right next door. Their warm staff knows your name, the food and drinks are superb, and everything is open for you to enjoy. Their location is also incredible with great sunsets and a beautiful beach.

The Hotel Hana-Maui & Honua Spa
One of the best and only spots to stay at in Hana, you'll enjoy true peace at this quiet hotel. The location is spectacular, and the areas around the hotel are about as close to Old Hawaii as you can get.
We think they made some excellent choices, though we'd probably put them higher up on the list.
A few months ago, Continental opened flights direct between Maui (OGG) at Kahului Airport and Orange County (SNA) at John Wayne Airport.
After both ATA and Aloha Airlines when under, this flight didn't exist. We'd like to thank Continental for routing these important flights, and any other airline that decides to do the same. Many of our visitors come from Orange County, and this flight will ensure a thriving tourist economy.
Now, if we an get all the airlines to stop recycling air, we'd be free from airline illnesses.
What a photo!
If this doesn't make you want to put down your work and hang by the pool, then you like working too much.
This photo was taken at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa yesterday at sunset. This is one of the best resort pools in Maui. They have 3 pools, but this one is by far the best.
