East Maui Irrigation Company (EMI) allows us to hike across their
beautiful land so long as each hiker has a waiver. An EMI WAIVER IS
ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED FOR EMI HIKES (LISTED BELOW). One waiver covers
all EMI hikes for this quarter. Call in your waiver request to Jackie
at 579-9516 well in advance and make an appointment with her for when
you can sign it. Then go to EMI's Pa'ia office at 497 Baldwin Avenue
to sign the waiver. Please be considerate of Jackie's time and pick up
waiver 5 days in advance whenever possible. THE WAIVER MUST BE BROUGHT
ON THE HIKE AND SHOWN TO THE HIKE LEADER.

This is one of my favorite photos. Taken at a secret spot hiking down to the ocean in Maui, Hawaii, this picture says it all. Good friends, great weather, incredible location. The perfect day.
Besides the obvious sun worshipping activities enjoyed on Maui beaches every day, there are many free if not inexpensive things to do in Maui.
Hiking to a waterfall will cost you next to nothing for an unforgettable experience. Gas, a packed lunch, a guidebook, and a sense of adventure are all you need to explore bamboo forests, towering waterfalls, and lush coastal areas. Caution: Do not swim directly under a waterfall. Often debris will float over the edge and can harm those below.
Snorkeling is another inexpensive favorite. Gear rentals can be found all over the island for a few bucks. Shore access to a plethora of ocean life is free and easy to find. Honolua Bay on a calm day is a favorite. But be careful! If there is swell activity, do not go out! The ocean is very dangerous; we suggest speaking to a professional at a snorkel shop to find the safest snorkeling area for your experience level.
Rent a surfboard or take a surf lesson. The surf in Maui is usually pretty small on the South and West sides of the island. Lessons can be found for less than $50, which includes equipment and instructions. If you're more adventurous, you can rent a surfboard.
Again, be careful! Lessons are highly suggested for newcomers. The ocean has many hidden dangers.
Maui has many incredible activities available, both inexpensive and costly. Take your time researching all of your options, and you may just find that Maui is less expensive to visit than previously anticipated.
This is a fun video shot in Hana, Maui. it shows 3 sections of Maui.
The first location is the Pipiwai Falls, which you can access by hiking up from Ohea Gulch (Seven Sacred Pools.) At Pipiwai there is a large 200 foot tall waterfall with an infinity pool at the top. Swimming in this pool is not advised due to flash floods.
The second spot is Blue Pool in Hana. unfortunately, this spot is not accessable from land due to annoyed locals. If you want to visit this spot, you either need to know the local residents in the area, or you have to arrive by boat. By boat would be VERY difficult.
The third spot is at Venus Pools. This spot is also not accessible by land due to private property. All beaches in Hawaii are public, but you'll find that some of them can not be accessed by land. At this spot, there are excellent cliff diving opportunities. Just make sure you've checked for debris before diving.
All of these spots are found along the Road to Hana.
This is one of the photos we didn't tweet. It was difficult to get reception at points, and this is one of the beauties left behind. We hope you all like it. Next time you decide to go on a hike, try Iao. It's easily accessible, and it's one of the most beautiful spots on Maui.
