Consider other dates, or if you must get married on this date, look into private venues.  Renting an estate on the water will allow you to have a private wedding, and you can still take photos afterwards on the beach like the other brides.

Another big date is 10/11/12.  Keep them in mind when booking your vendors.  Some may charge more for those dates too due to limited supply and high demand.

Thankfully, we had an on-site wedding planner to help make sure the important stuff didn't go wrong.  Making sure all your wedding vendors are on the same page is a task in itself.  That's why we recommend having a Maui wedding planner help you with your big day.  Stress is relieved when you know someone is putting out fires for you.

This is an important question to ask.  Here are a few pros and cons for day vs sunset photo shoots.

DAY TIME PORTRAITS

• When the sun is high, you can get that amazing turquoise ocean water in the background.
• Any greenery around you (trees, bushes, plants, etc...) will pop more in the photos.
• You'll have a hard time with squinting due to brightness.

SUNSET PORTRAITS

• Off camera lighting can make you look great while still capturing the beauty of the sunset.
• You have your day free earlier to do things.  Maui is great during the day for beach time.
• Sunset doesn't last very long, so you need to be on time and work quickly.
• Somtimes sunset isn't as spectacular 1 night to the next.  You roll the dice.

One of our favorite boardwalks is in Kaanapali.  You can walk from Hanakao'o Beach Park all the way to Duke's Beachhouse Restaurant next to the Aston Mahana and Honua Kai Konea hotels.  It's a long walk with many resorts in front of it.  You also wrap around the Sheraton at Black Rock.  If you walk from one end to the other, you're looking at at least an hour each way.  Some of it will be covered by trees, but most of it runs alongside the ocean and offers full sun.

There are plenty of spots to stop for drinks and food.  We love this walk for sunset or in the early morning when the sun isn't as strong.  When on the south side, there's a similar long walk along the ocean in Wailea.  You have to cross beaches here and there, but a lot of it is composed of paved path along the water and resorts.

We've recenlty downloaded the new iPhone app for Maui.  It's very cool with excellent videos showing different beaches, activities, and pretty much everything you want to see before visiting.  It's a lot of fun and an excellent visual guide to our island.
